Our Story
Hi! We’re Tara and Kory — longtime residents of the Stanwood-Camano community and proud to call this island home. We both grew up here, and have always appreciated the natural beauty, the easygoing spirit, and the close-knit feel of life on the island. Now, with our two daughters pursuing their own adventures, we’re excited to begin a new chapter, one that lets us share the place we love most.
Being outside has always been one of our favorite things. Kory’s early years guiding float tours in Alaska sparked a love for exploration that has taken us across much of the Pacific Northwest — kayaking, boating, hiking, and enjoying the outdoors with friends, family, and our dogs. Yet no matter where we roam, Camano Island remains a special place.
We truly believe that spending time on the water is one of the best parts of life in the Pacific Northwest. With Camano Island Adventures, we’re excited to make those experiences easy and accessible — helping visitors and locals alike get out and make the kinds of memories we’ve been lucky enough to create ourselves.

Camano Island
Just a short drive from Seattle or Bellingham, Camano Island offers a true Pacific Northwest experience without the ferry lines. Whether you’re here to paddle the shoreline, spot wildlife, or simply soak up the views, Camano is the perfect place.
Fun facts about Camano and the Puget Sound
- Camano Island is about 18 miles long and only about 5 miles across at its widest point
- The Puget Sound is an inland sea with thousands of miles of shoreline and over 300 different islands
- The waters here are a mix of saltwater and freshwater, creating a unique and rich marine environment
The Wildlife you might see while paddling
- Seals and sea lions — often spotted sunning themselves or swimming nearby!
- Bald eagles - Camano is known for its abundant eagle population
- Harbor porpoises — playful and occasionally cruising by in small groups
- Sea stars, sand dollars, and crabs — visible along the shallow tide flats
- Orca Whales - often spotted off Camano’s west side from May to October
Did you know?
Camano Island State Park was built in just one day by over 500 volunteers back in 1949 — a true community effort that’s still celebrated today! The park is over 430 acres and in addition to kayak and paddleboard rentals also has a campground, boat launch, many hiking trails and plenty of areas to picnic.
Things to know
- Camano is located in the Puget Sound and there are tides and currents to navigate, so you need to be aware of your surroundings and physically capable in order to be on the water safely.
- Boat traffic around the State Park in the summer can be busy so it’s best to paddle close to the shore. All the best stuff is near the beach anyway!
- Currents can sometimes make it easy to paddle in one direction and tough when going in the other, so it’s best to know your limits and stay close to the shore, no matter where you plan to paddle.
- We monitor the weather daily and may adjust launches from the State Park when necessary.
- Please respect wildlife and stay at least 50 feet away from marine mammals and birds that you may encounter.
- Pack it in – pack it out. Please don’t liter and use a reusable water bottle instead of single use plastic when possible.
